Step 1
Before you start sewing shorts, decide on their length and turn-up height. The length of the shorts is determined by what you will wear them with. A chiffon blouse with a deep neckline will not work with long shorts. They will look harmonious with a thick, solid knit sweater. Short shorts allow you to showcase your slender legs. It is better to choose a top made of satin or tight fabric for them.
Step 2
After you have decided on the long shorts, you need to modify the main pattern of the trousers into the pattern of the shorts. Set aside the desired length of the shorts on the main pattern and draw a horizontal line across it. Cut out the pattern along the line you have drawn. Attach a new piece of paper to it underneath the hemline that is slightly longer than the leg of the shorts along the final length line.
Step 3
Draw three parallel lines below the length of the shorts. Draw the first line, for example, at a distance of 4 cm from the final length, the second also at a distance of 4 cm from the first, and the third at a distance of 2 cm from the second. Cut off excess paper below line 3. Fold the pattern along the finished length, then along line 1, then along line 2.
Step 4
After you have prepared the folds on the pattern, you need to transfer the continuation of the edge line from the main pattern to the folds. You can then cut off excess paper along this line.
Step 5
After preparing the pattern, transfer it to the fabric. Cut out the details of the pattern from the fabric. Join the details of your shorts with a typewriter stitch without touching the folds.
Step 6
Machine-stitch the edges of the shorts. Sew along the sides of the folds along the line of the continuation of the seam that connects the shorts.
