Making a swag - the upper draped part of a soft lambrequin - is not an easy task. However, do not despair and completely abandon this window decoration option if you do not yet have the necessary skills in sewing this decor element. An alternative to the classic swag can be a mechanical one. The difference between this option is that the folds on it are formed due to the curtain tape sewn and tightened in a special way. It is quite simple to execute, so even a beginner in sewing can cut and sew it.

- - sewing accessories, sewing machine;
- - paper and drawing supplies.
Instructions
Step 1
Take the necessary measurements to build a swag pattern. Determine how wide (a) it should be, what its depth will be (b) - the distance from the top line to the bottom of the sag. Measure the length of the bottom slack (c) - the bottom fold line of the fabric.
Step 2
Determine the width of the swag's shoulder (d) by dividing its total width (topline length) by three. The central third of the top line - the middle of the swag (e) - is not a draped, flattened part, but the two side thirds are the shoulders of the swag, which you will drape with the curtain tape.
Step 3
Build a swag pattern using the measurements obtained. Draw two lines intersecting at right angles with apex at point A. To the right of it, set aside half the size of the middle of the swag and add 3 cm for processing AB = (1 / 2a + 3 cm).
Step 4
Lay down the segment AC - the depth of the swag, multiplied by a factor of 2-2, 5, the value of which depends on the density of the fabric (the denser the fabric, the lower its value).
Step 5
Using a thread with a length equal to the depth of the swag (AC), draw a part of the circle (arc) from point A. On this arc, set aside from point C an amount equal to half the length of the lower sag plus 3 cm for processing - point D.
Step 6
Connect points D and B. Round the corner B. It turned out half of the swag pattern.
Step 7
Attach a pattern to the fold of the fabric and circle. Make an allowance of 1.5 cm round. It is possible to cut a mechanical swag both along the oblique and along the shared thread.
Step 8
Trim the bottom edge of the swag with a double hem or tape (fringe, bias tape, etc.).
Step 9
Iron the allowances of the top and side cuts on the wrong side, and then stitch the curtain tape to them (on both edges).
Step 10
Pull the braid on the side sections BD, leaving the middle of the swag not draped.
