Today, one of the most popular types of undercarriage in passenger cars is the MacPherson strut independent suspension. Its weakest point is the thrust bearing. But unlike other types of suspension, it does not collapse instantly, but signals its wear with an increasing knock. Diagnostics in the vast majority of cases shows the wear of this particular part. In this case, it must be replaced.

Instructions
Step 1
Unscrew the hub nut that secures the CV joint to the hub, having previously lifted it on a jack. If necessary, have an assistant apply the brake to prevent the wheel from spinning. Remove the wheel.
Step 2
Disconnect the steering knuckle from the steering arm. To do this, remove the cotter pin and unscrew the nut. Remove the ball pin with a special puller, do not use a hammer. Install the puller and turn its screw several times, it will separate the steering knuckle and the bipod.
Step 3
Use a pry bar to spread the brake pads carefully. When squeezing, do not use the brake disc as a support for the lever, as it is quite fragile. After that, simply loosen the mounting bolts.
Step 4
Disconnect the ball joint. This can be done in two ways. If the support is riveted to the lever, press out the ball pin with a special puller. In the event that the support is mounted on bolts, simply unscrew them and it will remain hanging on the steering knuckle.
Step 5
Pull off the spring. To do this, use special devices that compress the spring, clinging to it with hooks. Use at least two zip ties to compress the spring evenly. To prevent the hooks from sliding off the spring coils, place coarse sandpaper under them.
Step 6
Unscrew the stem nut. To do this, you need a rack wrench, which is two tubes inserted into one another. The inner tube holds the groove, and the outer one unscrews the stem nut that holds the bearing. The groove of the inner tube must sit very tightly on the stem, otherwise, if the flats are damaged, it is impossible to unscrew the nut yourself.
Step 7
Remove the old journal bearing and install a new one. Assemble in reverse order. When installing the ball joint, you will need an assistant who will squeeze the lever until it can be bolted in place. After assembly, pump the brake pedal so that the pads are against the disc.
