Cross-country skiing is the path to health and fitness. The choice and purchase of new skis should be treated with great attention, because skis should ideally suit you, meet all your needs. Correctly selected skis are the key to your skiing pleasure.
Instructions
Step 1
Find out which skis you need. Depending on the level of your skill and the goals of skiing, choose skis from the following categories: - elite racing skis; - training racing or skis for beginners; - walking skis; - children's skis or skis for juniors; - skis designed for skiing without trails on virgin soil (from the Backcountry series for ski tourism).
Step 2
Choose what style you are going to ride. Choose between classic skis, skate skis or all-rounders depending on your preferred style.
Step 3
Measure the required ski length. When choosing classic skis, stand up and raise your straight arm up. Bend your fingers. Measure from your bent toes to the floor. This will be the length of the skis that suits your height for the classic style. If you plan to buy "skate" skis, subtract 10-15 cm from the length of the classics.
Step 4
Select the material from which the skis are made. Keep in mind that wood is cheap, but these skis are more difficult to care for - they need to be greased, they require more frequent lubrication with special ointments. Plastic is more durable, it is lighter, does not get wet from contact with snow.
Step 5
Decide on the stiffness of your skis. It is believed that skis of low to medium stiffness are suitable for ordinary recreational skiing. Also focus on your weight - the more your weight, the more rigid skis you should choose.
