Step 2
Measure the width of the window and the height of the room from the curtain rod to the desired curtain length. Based on these indicators, you can calculate the required amount of fabric. The width of the future curtain will depend on how lush the folds you go to make. The possible coefficient in the calculations ranges from 1, 3 to 3. With an indicator of 1, 3, your curtains in the expanded form will be almost straight, and at 3 they will retain large waves. To calculate the amount of fabric, you will need to multiply the width of the window or the length of the cornice by the selected factor. For curtains may also vary. if you want to make curtains with an overlap, then you need to increase their length in relation to the desired indicator. In the same way, calculate how much fabric you need to make a frill or lambrequin.
Step 3
Buy curtain fabric. This can be done at a specialist sewing shop. Focus not only on the appearance of the fabric, but also on its ability to transmit light. The seller in the store will be able to advise you on this matter.
Step 4
Open the curtains with the fabric you purchased. The easiest way to do this is directly on the fabric, without using a paper pattern. This is possible because the curtain is a simple rectangle or square. Do not forget to take into account the seam allowances of at least two centimeters, and also take into account when cutting out the place for the loops with which the curtain will be attached to the cornice.
Step 5
Sew the cut pieces of the curtain. The best way to do this is to use a goat seam with a closed edge. In this case, the seams will not be visible from the outside of the fabric. In modern sewing machines, special modes are provided for reproducing such seams.
