Fast driving captivates and attracts all lovers of extreme sports and active entertainment - and if in summer you have scooters, motorcycles and bicycles at your disposal, then there is not so much choice among winter vehicles: usually sledges and snowmobiles. Nevertheless, you can make your own unusual and fast winter transport - snowmobiles.

Step 1

Snowmobiles have a simple design that is accessible even to novice mechanics. To construct them, you need three wooden skis - two on the left and one on the right, as well as a motorcycle engine, the type of which differs depending on whether you want a single or double sled. For single sleds, the IZH-49 engine is suitable, and for double sleds, the M-72 engine.

Step 2

The driver sits astride the body of the snowmobile, just like on a motorcycle. The body itself is made of wooden beams, sheathed with plywood, on which pillows or armchairs with backs are reinforced.

Step 3

Make your sled skis from sturdy birch planks that can be reinforced with plywood slats at the top for structural strength.

Step 4

On the underside of the skis, attach wooden skates upholstered with undercut steel strips. This ski design improves cross-country ability and increases travel speed, as well as protects the ski surface from wear.

Step 5

On the back of the skis, install the pin-type brakes, which are activated by the driver using the right pedal to which the brake cable is attached.

Step 6

Attach the rear left ski, on which the brake is installed, to the main frame with a cantilever axle shaft, which in turn is rigidly fixed to the rear of the hull.

Step 7

Attach the front left ski, responsible for steering, on a vertical axle with a fork on a welded metal bracket attached to the side of the body. Fasten the right ski on the tubular triangle.

Step 8

For control, attach the steering wheel from the same motorcycle from which you take the engine to the sled. Install the engine from the motorcycle to the tubular frame and the propeller to which the engine torque is transmitted using the motorcycle chain. The propeller should be rotating at 1440 rpm and a metal mesh should be installed in front of it for safety.

Step 9

Attach the engine frame, on which the engine is mounted, to the body using struts on the rear axle of the suspension. Attach the fuel tank to a separate subframe above the engine.

Step 10

To make a pushing propeller, make blade patterns and then cut them out of oak, pine, or birch. Glue the workpiece with casein glue, after sanding the wooden parts and smoothing their surface.

Step 11

Dry the glued parts, clean them and bring to readiness, holding in the clamps for up to three days. After drying, process the screw blank, plan it with a plane, process it with hot linseed oil and dry it.

Step 12

Finished blades are pasted over with a cloth (for example, coarse calico) and painted. Check the finished screw on the balancing machine and then push it onto the bushing.
