Instructions
Step 1
Determine the purpose of your sewing training. If you are striving not just to learn how to sew simple things that are needed in the household, for example, to cut curtains or capes on furniture, but want to be able to sew a thing so that it would not be embarrassing to go out in people, then you should start learning by learning the basics of sewing. This is important, since finishing the product gives it a neat, finished look, which means that the craftswoman must be able to hold a needle in her hands in the most literal sense. Learn to do all kinds of hand seams. Each stage of the creation of a product must be carried out with the utmost care.
Step 2
Choose your way of learning to sew. You can sign up for sewing and sewing courses, buy a couple of books on sewing and designing clothes, or you can just start sewing, choosing simple models for a start, and using, for example, the Internet as a consultant. If you do not pretend to be a couturier, then, perhaps, knowledge of the laws of designing clothes may not be useful to you, the more that all fashion magazines today make it possible to work with a ready-made pattern of the required size. But knowledge of how to "fit" clothes on the figure should not be neglected - the main advantage of a specially sewn thing is the ability to perfectly fit it to the figure.
Step 3
When you decide to start sewing, provide yourself with all the equipment you need for this. The sewing machine must be well debugged, its stitching must be straight, without gaps and loops. The tailor's scissors are well sharpened. You must have a set of pins, a measuring tape, and a set of sewing needles. When choosing a specific model, pay attention to the recommendations for the selection of machine needles and threads.
Step 4
Start by choosing a pattern. It should be relatively simple. In many publications, models are assigned markings reflecting the level of complexity of its execution. Before getting down to work, carefully read the recommendations for implementation, as well as carefully examine the pattern, trying to understand the purpose of its designations and the sequence of work.
Step 5
Choose a fabric. For your first works, do not take expensive, as well as "capricious" fabric, i.e. the one that requires a certain skill to work with. When choosing a fabric, be sure to take into account its features before opening, such as shrinkage during washing, thread direction, flowability, pattern direction, etc.
Step 6
Before cutting the fabric, carefully double-check the accuracy of the cut pattern. Remember that the stitch is sewn back from the edge of the fabric. The golden rule of "measure seven times" applies precisely to tailoring.
Step 7
Observe the sewing technology of the selected product. Basting before sewing on the garment. With some experience, you can simply pin the fabric with pins perpendicular to the stitch line. Try on a thing in the process of work, so you can correct the arising shortcomings. Take your time, redo inaccuracies right away. Be mindful of the little things.
