If you decide to learn how to knit mittens, start with a simple model that does not have embossed patterns and patterns. All the same, the mittens will turn out wonderful, as they are created with love, with your own hands.
Classic mittens are knitted on four knitting needles (the fifth is auxiliary). Buy yarn of the color you like, you can choose one that includes acrylic and wool. Products made from such threads keep their shape and look great. The thicker the thread, the larger the size of the needles.
If a skein of 250 meters of thread weighs 100 g, then take knitting needles No. 2, 5. All these parameters can be seen on the labels.
First, determine the density of the knit. To do this, grasp the circle that runs directly under the thumb - the widest part of the hand with a measuring tape. Write down the value obtained. Fold 2 knitting needles together, cast on 12 loops (2 outer ones), knit with a front satin stitch (this is one of the easiest ways to create a knitted fabric) 5 cm. Measure the width of the sample. Determine how many loops are in one centimeter by dividing the number of loops (10, the two outer ones do not count) by the width of the sample in centimeters. The figure can turn out with hundredths, round it to tenths and multiply by the first value (palm girth). So many loops you need to dial.
Let's say you have 48 stitches. So, for each knitting needle, you need to dial 12. If the number is not divisible by 4, add loops so that it becomes a multiple of four. Fold the needles in half. Cast on loops. The second row consists of two purl and the same number of facial, this is an elastic band. Having knitted 12 loops in this way, leave them on the knitting needle. For the next 12, start with the second knitting needle, then the third and fourth. Work the last stitch, then the first, starting the second row.
Mittens on four knitting needles are knitted in a circle, so in the second row, over the front loops, do the front loops, over the wrong ones - purl loops. Knit 5-7 cm in this way. After the elastic, start creating the main fabric, knitting it only with the front ones. Sometimes try on the workpiece on the hand of the one to whom you are knitting. When you get to the beginning of your thumb, remove 8 loops per pin, and fasten it.
Continue to knit further, when the mitten completely covers the little finger, begin to close the loops. Pay attention to where to do it. Transfer the last loop of the knitting needle to the adjacent one, knit 2 loops together. Can be closed on four or two sides. If you want, make it even easier, and knit further with the front stitch without subtracting. When the middle finger is covered, thread a piece of thread into the large eye of the needle, pass its point through all the loops, tighten, tie on a knot. Pull the ends of the thread inside out with a crochet hook.
If you gradually reduce the loops on the side of the little finger and index finger, the mitten will better fit the top of the palm, repeating its contours.
With a gradual decrease at the end, you will have 2 loops, remove them together by inserting the main thread through them. Cut it off, leaving a piece of 2 cm, using a crochet hook, pull it inside out.
To knit your fingers, transfer the 8 removed stitches from the pin to the knitting needle. On the second, dial the same amount on the other side of the finger hole. On the third knitting needle, cast on 2 loops from the right side, on the fourth - two from the left. Tie your finger, when you get to the top, close the loops gradually or all at once. The second mitten is done in the same way, the thumb is created in a mirror image.
