A beautiful, convenient and safe DIY storage box for toys is a very important accessory in the nursery. Such a box turns the process of cleaning toys into an exciting experience and at the same time serves as a decorative element of the interior.
Recycled paper box
If a lot of waste paper has accumulated in the house, you can get rid of it during the creative process of making an elegant box for toys yourself. A rectangle is cut out of thick cardboard for the bottom of the box, the dimensions of which depend on how large the finished product should be. In accordance with these dimensions, four side walls are cut out and glued to the bottom of the box using PVA glue. To give the structure reliability and additional rigidity, it is recommended to paste over the box inside and outside with scraps of old newspapers. Particular attention should be paid to connecting seams and joints between the walls.
To give the toy box an elegant and attractive look, strips about 15 cm wide are cut from old magazines, advertising brochures and newspapers with color printing and rolled into tubes. It is recommended to make the tubes using a thick knitting needle: it is placed on a strip of paper at an angle of 45 degrees, twisted and fixed with a drop of glue.
The bottom and side walls of the box are coated with PVA glue and the prepared paper tubes are glued. After the tops have dried, they are cut off with scissors, aligning the tubes along the length. The interior decoration of the toy box can be any: it can be pasted over with plain white paper for a printer or decorated with napkins using decoupage technique. If you have scraps of wallpaper, adhesive tape, or wrapping paper in your home, they can also be used to decorate the inside of the box.
Box with handles
A convenient box for storing toys, which can be moved around the room by the handles, can be made on the basis of any capacious unnecessary box made of thick cardboard. To do this, the lid is cut off from her and to smooth out sharp corners and give the structure additional rigidity, the entire box is carefully pasted over with construction tape. Small slots are made in the side walls for attaching the handles.
The decoration of the future toy box is carried out with a beautiful fabric: strong enough to withstand frequent use and resistant to dirt. The box is placed on a piece of fabric and the details are marked taking into account that the material will bend inside the structure.
It is recommended to start gluing the box from its bottom, moving to wide walls and then to narrow ones. The box is evenly coated with PVA glue and carefully glued on the fabric, smoothing out small folds and monitoring the quality of the design of the corner elements: special attention should be paid to the joints where the fabric is collected in several layers.
To make handles, two rectangles of the required length are cut out of fabric, folded along the front side inward, stitched and turned outward. The finished handles are inserted into the slots of the box and glued to its inner side. For greater reliability, the handles can be reinforced with small pieces of cardboard glued on top. After that, the inner surface of the toy box is pasted over with a cloth.
