A wooden box is an irreplaceable thing in the house, because it is in it that the most expensive things are kept: memorabilia, jewelry, documents. The accessory made of wood looks beautiful and respectable, moreover, it can last for many years. At the same time, a home craftsman can make a wooden box.
Materials and tools
To make a wooden box you will need:
- planks 10 mm thick;
- joiner's glue;
- lid hinges;
- glue brush;
- a hacksaw for wood or a jigsaw;
- corner;
- sandpaper;
- clamp.
The sequence of making a wooden box
- Prepare materials. Any wood will do to craft a box. An excellent option would be oak, ash, beech, etc. The only condition is that the boards must be well dried and they must not have knots, as they can subsequently fall out of the walls of the box and form holes.
- Make two pieces the same size for the bottom and lid. Sand all edges and surfaces thoroughly. The surface must be smooth.
- Cut out 4 pieces for the sidewalls of the box. Use a miter saw to file the sides at a 45-degree angle and carefully sand the workpieces.
- Lubricate all side cuts with wood glue and secure them with a clamp. Leave to dry completely.
- Apply glue to the underside of the side walls and glue them to the bottom of the future box.

Attach the cover with the hinges. Screw them to the wall of the box and blanks for the lid. The box is almost ready, you can leave it as it is, but for the perfect result, it is best to decorate it, add accessories, etc.

How to decorate
Decorating a box is an exciting experience. The inside of the wooden box can be painted in any color. This requires water-based paint and a brush.
The product will look gorgeous if it is upholstered with a velvet fabric inside. This requires pieces of velvet, a hammer, and small nails. Cut out 5 pieces (1 for the bottom and 4 for the walls). Their size should be 1 cm larger on each side. Fold over allowances and nail velvet around the perimeter. Another option is to make the lining soft. To do this, you can put blanks from a padding polyester under the velvet parts and nail them inside the box.
The lid of the product can be decorated to your liking. Glue on half beads, shells, and other materials at hand. Painted wooden boxes look very nice. If you do not know how to draw, then you can apply a beautiful drawing to the box using decoupage. This is the easiest way to decorate a piece.
Decoupage boxes are made like this:
- From a napkin or a special decoupage card, cut out a detail to fit the lid.
- Lubricate the lid with PVA glue.
- The top layer with the pattern is removed from the napkin and carefully applied to the lid.
- Smooth the paper with a soft brush. trying not to leave folds and creases.
- Allow the glue to dry.
- The finished product is covered with colorless furniture varnish.
