A designer doll can be created in a variety of techniques, and in each case your doll will be a unique and individual craft with its own mood and emotions. Articulated dolls, which are made both from materials that are difficult to process (for example, porcelain), and from simpler polymer plastics, are distinguished by special grace and complexity of manufacture.

Step 1
To make a ball-jointed doll, draw a life-size sketch of the future doll. Take two images, one in front and one in profile. Mark the joints of the doll's joints to then determine the size and number of joints. Use insulating polystyrene foam to form the frame of the doll's parts. Cut parts out of it so that their size is 10 mm smaller than the real parts.
Step 2
Make a frame for all parts of the doll, except for the arms and legs, as well as the neck. Sketch out the facial features and its relief on the head blank. Place the expanded polystyrene frame in a base of fine sawdust mixed with chemical glue. Cover the mold with a mixture of glue and sawdust and wait for the parts to dry.
Step 3
Then, after the base has dried, remove the mold from it, taking care not to damage the hollow parts. If in the process of extracting the styrofoam molds your parts cracked, do not despair - use the same mixture of chemical glue and powdery sawdust as a putty, cover the cracks with the mixture and wait until it dries completely again.
Step 4
When the details are ready, start sculpting the elements of the doll - make the head and face of the doll, and then sculpt the parts of the arms and legs. Set eyes on the doll's face. Determine the locations of the joints and make them in the form of small balls, the size corresponding to the diameter of the limbs of your doll.
Step 5
Place the balls in the glenoid fossa between the parts of the arms and legs. Also place the joint balls in the places where you planned to make additional hinges. Assemble the doll so that the joints are movable.
