Homemade boats made of paper, plywood, bark or wood are a favorite toy of many children, both past and present. Making a sailboat out of wood with your own hands is not difficult at all - you can entertain yourself by making such a boat, and also call for help from children who will get no less pleasure from the process of creating a toy.

It is necessary

  • - knife;
  • - jigsaw;
  • - file;
  • - sandpaper;
  • - plywood 3-4 mm thick;
  • - cardboard;
  • - slats 25x1x1 cm;
  • - small carnations;
  • - tracing paper;
  • - drawing paper;
  • - PVA glue;
  • - threads;
  • - brushes and fabric for sails.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare materials for making a sailboat - a knife, a jigsaw, a file, sandpaper, plywood 3-4 mm thick, cardboard, as well as strips 25x1x1 cm. Also you will need small carnations, tracing paper, drawing paper, PVA glue, threads, brushes and cloth for sails. Find and transfer to the plywood a suitable drawing of the sailboat parts, using a 10x10 mm mesh and carbon paper for accuracy.

Step 2

Using a jigsaw, cut out the details of the sailboat from plywood, and make masts from round strips. Then cut out the sails from thick fabric - foresail, mainsail and mizzen. Use a 4 cm wide strip of cardboard to make a yarn for your sailboat. The ends of the yards should protrude 4 mm beyond the sail.

Step 3

Use black sewing thread for standing rigging and brown for running rigging. Secure the cables with plastic rings and glue. Cut the steering wheel out of a sheet of tin.

Step 4

According to the drawings, drill holes for the masts on the deck and stern of the sailboat, the diameter of which should be 5 mm. Draw parallel lines to create a plank-like effect.

Step 5

Then, when the holes for the masts are drilled, assemble the details of the future boat, gluing them with PVA glue. First, connect the bottom and keel, then glue the main deck and aft deck to the structure, and then glue the bulkheads and transom.

Step 6

File the edges of the structure and polish the sailboat with sandpaper. Cut the side skin out of 1 mm plywood and cover the outer surface of the sailboat with the skin. Sand it after the glue dries with sandpaper.

Step 7

Use a small pine plank to make a stand for a sailboat. Sand the stand and cover with varnish or paint. You can also cover the surface of the boat with varnish or any wood impregnation.
