Dry brushing is a special technique that lies at the intersection of graphics and painting. They paint on an unprimed surface using very hard brushes and oil paints. The dry brushing technique involves rubbing paints on paper or cloth, with very little paint being used.
It is necessary
hard brushes, paper, oil paint, hard eraser, gouache white, palette
Instructions
Step 1
To draw with a dry brush, you can use paper or cloth. It is better to take textured paper, for example, under a canvas or under an eggshell. Watercolor paper is great for dry brushing. Brushes should be chosen hard, very good from pork bristles.
Step 2
Use a pencil to draw the outline of the drawing on the paper. It is necessary to do this very easily and carefully, since the paints are low-saturated, and their layer is quite thin. If bold pencil lines are visible, it will ruin the drawing. It is better to work out the drawing in advance on another sheet of paper so that you do not use an eraser at the stage of drawing the contours. It will damage the texture of the paper and may also cause pilling. The surface of the paint, which is not uneven and in pills, will form poorly.
Step 3
After the contours of the drawing are ready, color work begins. Before you start working with paint, you need to apply it to the palette and grind it with a palette knife until smooth. There should be no lumps or lumps, the paint should be an ideal paste.
Step 4
Take some paint with your brush, and then run it several times over the palette. This will distribute the paint evenly over the bristles of the brush. There should not be a lot of paint, otherwise you can ruin the whole drawing. If you run out of paint, then you can take more and also accurately disperse the paint over the brush using a palette.
Step 5
The drawing should be started with a large brush. Work through the basic tones with it. Then take a smaller brush and work with smaller tonal elements of the picture. And so on until the drawing is almost completely ready. Rub the paint gently into the paper, not too hard and not too much paint.
Step 6
Glare is usually applied with white gouache when the rest of the drawing is ready. Such whitewash dries very quickly and is opaque.
