When the temperature outside is freezing, water freezes not only in puddles. Sometimes this happens in automobile fuel systems (if there is water in the solarium), tanks and hoses for headlight and glass washers (in case of untimely change of summer fluid to winter one). Or, even worse, in water or sewer pipes - if the ice is not dissolved in time, the pipes can simply burst. Consider ways to deal with this scourge.

It is necessary

  • - warm box or garage,
  • - industrial welding machine,
  • - torch,
  • - building hair dryer,
  • - gas-burner,
  • - hot water,
  • - salt,
  • - a container for water,
  • - rubber or plastic reinforced hose,
  • - special flexible electric heater for pipes.

Instructions

Step 1

Water and sewer pipes Dissolve a large amount of salt in water and pour this solution into the inspection hole of the sewer pipe. This method is effective at air temperatures down to -5 degrees. At lower temperatures, salt water will not help.

Step 2

Turn on the electric hairdryer to the maximum temperature. Point it at the pipe and slowly move the hair dryer along it. The temperature of the heated pipe should be controlled by touch.

Step 3

Light the gas burner and follow the same steps as in the previous paragraph. You don't have to feel the pipe - everything will be clear anyway.

Step 4

Connect the ends of the wires of the welding machine to the frozen section of the pipe. To do this, you need to remove the insulation from the wires and wrap the exposed wires around the pipe. Turn on the welding machine, gradually increasing the welding current. This method is effective on small areas of frozen metal pipes.

Step 5

Wrap the frozen section of the pipe with a special tape heater or wires for heating pipes. Cover the frozen pipe with thermal insulation (mineral wool). Connect the heater to the mains.

Step 6

Hose hot water into the frozen sewer pipe through the inspection hole. This method is effective if there is not much ice in the pipe. Otherwise, hot water pouring back through the inspection hole will create a flood, which will soon turn into a skating rink.

Step 7

Diesel engine fuel system Make a torch out of rags, dip it in a solarium. Get to the open fuel pipes under the bottom of the car and heat them up with a burning torch. This method is often used by truck and tractor drivers in severe frosts. However, it is preferable to use an electric hair dryer if it is possible to connect it. Better yet, push the car into a warm box.

Step 8

Washer of windows and headlights of a car Drive the car into a heated room. After some time (usually a few hours is enough), the temperature of the fluid will rise, the ice will melt and it will be possible to replace the summer fluid in the washer reservoir with the winter one. Only first you need to pour out all the summer fluid from the tank using the standard car system (lever on the steering wheel).
