Traditional shawls and large headscarves, which were worn by women in Russia, are more modern today than ever. They are the perfect addition to any wardrobe and can be worn at any time of the year. In summer, such a scarf can be thrown over your shoulders, protecting yourself from the evening chill, in winter, you can wrap your head or use it as a scarf. Of course, such a scarf can be bought in a store, but sometimes there are fabrics whose design is so good that you want to make a scarf out of it, which no one else will have.
Instructions
Step 1
In order to sew a scarf and for it to look good, it is necessary that the width of the selected fabric is large enough - at least 90 centimeters. It is better to use silk fabric or fine wool for such a scarf, which will drape nicely and well on the head or around the neck.
Step 2
For a scarf, fabrics in a small flower or with a pattern with a regular structure - a cage, polka dots are suitable. When buying a fabric, choose a thread of the appropriate color right away. If the fabric is colored, then choose the thread in the dominant color. If the store sells sewing accessories, then see if you can find a fringe that matches the color and texture. It should not be longer than 5-7 centimeters, otherwise it will be difficult to tie the scarf.
Step 3
Before starting to cut the fabric, it is better to wash it in hot water so that it softens and “shrinks”, since this is typical for woolen fabrics. Then iron it and start cutting. Cut a square out of the fabric with the width and length you need, do not forget to add 1 centimeter on all sides for the hem. Finish all four edges, folding the fabric about 5 millimeters. If there is a fringe, then double-stitch it over the front of the scarf.
