A straight toe heel is the easiest option that even a beginner knitter can do. The knitting principle is very simple, only the central loops are knitted, and the side loops are reduced, knitting the loops together with the loop of the central part.

The straight toe heel is often called "grandmother's" because it is knitted by grandmothers. In Soviet knitting books and magazines, socks are found with this particular type of heel, it is the oldest of all the options (in comparison with the "boomerang", round heel, "French" and "kerchief").

It is called straight because the two parts of the heel form a right angle. For this type of heel, any pattern is suitable, make it multi-colored. It is better to knit a reinforced one: * knit the first loop, and transfer every second loop to the knitting needle without knitting *. The heel with this pattern will be stronger than usual.

As a general rule, the heel is performed by ½ of the total number of loops. The back wall is a rectangle, its height depends on the size of the socks. Usually they knit 3-4 cm for small sizes, 5-6.5 cm for adults. There are plates on the Internet that indicate the height of the back wall of the heel for a particular size of socks. At the edges of the rectangle (the second and third loops at the beginning of the row and the two penultimate ones) knit strips of two purl loops.

The loops of the last row of the back wall are divided into three parts, if it is not divided without a remainder, then the extra loops are distributed (two extra loops are distributed to the side parts. One extra loop is added to the central part of the heel).

Only the loops of the central part of the sock are knitted, and the side loops are reduced. In the first row of the lower part, the side loops and the central ones are knitted, the last loop of the central part is knitted with the first loop of the third.

Turn knitting, remove the first loop, knit the rest. The last loop of the central part is knitted with the next one, the knitting is turned.

The number of loops on the needles is gradually reduced, and the lower part of the heel is formed. The deduction of the stitches creates a neat edge on the bottom of the heel.

In the two penultimate rows, one loop remains at the edges, they also need to be knitted with the loops of the central part. In the process of knitting, the heels are made only deductions, the loops are not added (in contrast to the "boomerang" heel).

In the last row, not the original number of loops, but only 1/3 of them. For example, they started to knit the heel on 26 loops. This means that 8 loops should remain in the last row of the heel on the spoke (there were nine loops in the first and third parts).

Eight stitches of the last row are halved and distributed over two knitting needles, the beginning of all subsequent rows will be in the middle of the heel.

Loops missing for knitting are picked up on the sides of the heel. The number of loops should be greater than the original, because you need to tie a wedge. For example, there were 26 loops (13 loops on each knitting needle), which means there should be 30-36 loops (depending on the size of the sock).
