Knitting is an interesting and useful type of needlework. There are many techniques and new ones are emerging, so you cannot say, "I can knit, and I have nothing else to learn." You can always try something new and create unusual things.
There are three main methods of knitting: crochet, knitting, on looms (forks can be attributed to them). Each of them includes different techniques, options for creating patterns. Some knitting techniques and techniques are similar to each other.
Crochet techniques
Hooks are produced in three types: regular, long, with a loop at the end (similar to a large needle).
Each of them is designed for a specific knitting technique. Regular knitting can be done in sirloin, swivel, freeform, Irish or Bruges lace, Irish lace, various patterns.
Long is used for Tunisian (Afghan) knitting. The canvas turns out to be thick and dense, warmer than usual. It is believed that the technique was invented in Tunisia and Afghanistan, because there are cold nights. In these countries, crochet blankets are crocheted, which should protect from the cold. One pattern in Tunisian technique resembles knitted stocking.
A hook with a loop allows you to knit a fabric according to a pattern for knitting needles, the technique is called knucking and completely imitates a fabric knitted. It allows you to knit "English elastic", brioche, "braids" pattern and much more. The fabric turns out to be thin compared to what was knitted with a regular crochet. Loop deductions are simple, knit two or three loops together. Add loops with a crochet of the working thread on the hook.
Tunisian knitting and knitting are a bit similar. Enterlac is a knitting technique for any of the three types of crochet hooks.
Knitting techniques
There are three types of knitting needles, but knitting techniques do not depend on them.
Swing knitting (swing knitting) is considered the most popular and widespread. In this technique, perform a boomerang heel for socks, stoles and cardigans. Rows of different lengths are obtained, they form different patterns and canvas of different shapes. The popular Nako berets are performed in this technique.
Intarsia is considered less popular and famous. This multi-colored knitting is used to complete the pattern. The fabric is knitted from several balls, so there are no broaches on the seamy side (unlike ordinary jacquard).
There is a technique called brioche, it is better known as two-color knitting. The fabric is double-sided and multi-colored, performed with a 1x1 elastic band with yarn of different colors.
Enterlak is another crochet technique that looks a bit like patchwork. The canvas looks like it was woven from multi-colored ribbons.
A little-known technique can be called pooling, only sectional yarn is suitable for it. It is necessary to choose the pattern so that it can be knitted with one thread without breaking (distribute the colored sections of the yarn). The technique is similar to intarsia and jacquard, the only difference is that the pooling is performed with one thread.
"Missoni" refers to multi-colored knitting, this technique imitates prints on clothes of a famous brand.
Most of the knitting techniques were not invented in Russia, so they are named in English. For example, Magic Loop is a technique for knitting two identical things at the same time (performed on circular knitting needles).
There are peculiar techniques that cannot be attributed to knitting. For example, shibori. A thin fabric is knitted with knitting needles, then knots are tied on it and lowered into water. The canvas dries up and becomes embossed. Sometimes a fabric of fluffy yarn is washed in a soapy solution to get the effect of a thing knocked out of wool (felting).
