A loose shirt dress is a great wardrobe item for hot days. It can be sewn both from a plain light fabric, and from material with a large print. In both cases, the look of the owner of such a dress will attract attention.
How to make a pattern for a shirt dress
To make a dress pattern, use any suitable pattern for a straight-cut shirt. Extend the pattern of the front and back to the desired length of the garment. The rest of the elements do not need to be changed, as this model has the same fastening, collar and sleeves as a regular shirt.
Fold the fabric for sewing the dress with the right side inward. Attach a piece to it and trace along the contours. Cut out the parts, leaving 1, 5 cm on all cuts for seam allowances, and start sewing.
Front sewing technology
Place the details of the front of the shirt dress on top of each other, combining all the cuts, and sew in the middle to the fastener mark. Straighten the seam and press it to the right along with the one-piece facing.
Sew the piping to the left side of the front closure. Turn it inside out. Sew the fastener straps lengthwise. Sew the right side of the front across at the end of the fastener, grabbing the left edge. On the right side, overcast the buttonholes.
Backrest sewing technology
On the back detail on the wrong side, stitch the pleats from the top edge to the mark. Fold the folds towards the sides. Sweep them along the top edge of the back.
Attach the yoke pieces to the front and back of the back and sew together. Stitch along the seam seam. Sew the yoke to the shelves in the same way. Next, sew the sides of the shirt dress. Try on and check the armhole line and the length of the product.
Collar sewing technology
Duplicate the detail for the upper part of the collar with non-woven fabric. Fold it with the bottom of the right sides to each other and grind the details along the outer cuts. To make the collar look neat in the finished product, you need to cut off the allowances close to the line, and cut the corners diagonally. Turn the collar to the right side, carefully straighten the seam and iron its edges.
Fold the rack parts right sides inward. Insert the collar between them, aligning the cuts, and sew the parts together. Turn the strut inside out and sew along the top cuts. Sew the bottom edge of the stand into the neck. On the right side of the stand, cut the loop for the fastener.
Sewing technology of sleeves and processing of the bottom of the shirt dress
Sew seams on the sleeves. Press hem allowances to wrong side and machine hem. Place the details on the sides. To do this, sew a wide stitch from mark to mark close to the cut. Pull the seam slightly, dampen and iron.
Sew sleeves into armholes.
Sew the buttons on the left side of the clasp. Try on the dress by buttoning it up. Check the bottom length again.
Bend the cut to the wrong side 2 times. Try it on. The lines of the right and left shelves should match perfectly. Sew the hem or sew it by hand with a blind hem. Remove the basting and iron the product.
