The fox skin is very beautiful and can serve as a warm collar or fur coat. But, before taking on a pattern, it is necessary to make a high-quality fox skin so that it becomes soft and pliable.
It is necessary
- - a container for soaking the skin;
- - wooden block;
- - steel knife;
- - hairbrush;
- - sandpaper;
- - powder for washing woolen clothes;
- - salt;
- - antiseptic (formalin, sulfidine, tetracycline, etc.);
- - leaves, bark and small twigs of willow;
- - a glass of coarse oatmeal;
- - some baking soda and yeast;
- - glycerin;
- - egg yolk;
- - laundry soap;
- - about 0.5 liters of animal fat;
- - 10-12 ml of ammonia.
Instructions
Step 1
Dilute a solution of boiled warm water, washing powder, antiseptic and a decoction of willow leaves. Soak the skin so that it is completely covered, leave it for a day. If the solution is heated a little (up to 40 ° C), then the fox skin will "reach" faster - in 12-16 hours). Soak until nose and feet are softened.
Step 2
Simultaneously prepare a fermented solution of oat flour, soda and salt (per liter of boiling water, take a glass of flour, 0.5 g of soda and 20-30 g of salt). After the liquid has cooled, add some yeast and leave in a warm place for a day.
Step 3
Turn the hide in with the wool and pull it over a block, such as a piece of wood. Scrape the bottom layer of the hide with a blunt steel knife, being careful not to damage the integrity of the leather. Then, carefully clean off any bruising and contaminated areas.
Step 4
After the surface is level, immerse the fox skin in a fermented solution for 2-4 days. Stir from time to time so that no skin forms on top. Please note that the room temperature should not exceed 38 ° C. You can do without pickling, but this procedure significantly increases the value and quality of the skin.
Step 5
For tanning, make a decoction of willow bark, fill a saucepan with bark and branches, cover with water and simmer for 30 minutes over high heat. Add 50 g of salt (per liter) and cool. Then saturate the flesh with this solution, keep in mind that the fur may turn creamy.
Step 6
Fold the hide with the skin inside and leave it on for a day. Then start drying it. Stretch the skin on a rule, but as soon as it begins to dry, remove and stretch in different directions, wrinkle so that it turns white and becomes suede to the touch.
Step 7
After drying, sand the seamy side with sandpaper to soften it. This completes the dressing of the fox skin.
Step 8
If you want to increase the water resistance of the hide, grease it. To do this, soak it with a mixture of egg yolk and glycerin or a solution of soap and fat (for 0.5 liters of boiling water, 50 g of soap and 0.5 kg of fat, as well as 10 g of ammonia). Lubricate the skin with the mixture and let it sit for several hours, then dry, knead and comb the fur.
