Products using decoupage technique, decorated with "antique" craquelure, look very fashionable and stylish. The surface of such products looks like it is cracked from time to time. To create a mesh of cracks, you can buy one- and two-component varnishes. However, they are usually quite expensive, so if you are just starting out with needlework, you can try to make an analogue of craquelure varnish yourself.

It is necessary

  • - acrylic paints
  • - brush
  • - sponge (sponge)
  • - hairdryer
  • - furniture varnish PF-283
  • - wheat dextrin
  • - PVA glue

Instructions

Step 1

With the help of furniture varnish PF-283, which is a solution of alkyd resins, it is easy to make an analogue of craquelure varnish. Apply a layer of varnish on the surface of the object to be decorated and wait 3-4 hours. The varnish should remain slightly sticky.

Step 2

Apply a second layer of acrylic paint and dry immediately with a hair dryer. Cracks will depend on how the top coat is applied. If applied with a brush, the cracks will follow the movement of the brush. If it is desirable to obtain a mesh, then the top layer must be applied with a sponge-sponge.

Step 3

Leave the finished product to dry for at least 36 hours.

Step 4

For the manufacture of craquelure varnish, you can also use wheat dextrin, which is heat-treated starch. Add boiling water to the dextrin powder and dissolve in a water bath to the consistency of liquid yogurt.

Step 5

On well-dried finished work, apply a thick coat of high-gloss water-based varnish and let it dry.

Step 6

After that, you need to apply the prepared dextrin with a brush, as thick as possible and let it dry naturally for an hour.

Step 7

There is also a way to create an imitation of craquelure varnish using PVA glue. Paint the entire surface of the product with a thick layer of PVA glue and let the glue dry to a sticky state.

Step 8

Let the glue dry to a sticky state.
