Works made with acrylic paints should be varnished. A well-executed coating will help to preserve the brightness and saturation of the color, giving the image a shine. The varnish, forming a film on the surface of the painting, will protect it from grease, dust, moisture, soot and other harmful substances that may be contained in the air.
It is necessary
Varnishes: matt acrylic or polyurethane-acrylic, 2 flute brushes, pinene, acrylic painting
Instructions
Step 1
An acrylic painting should be varnished a year after the end of the work. Until that time, it must be protected with a film or glass from dust and other contaminants.
Step 2
Choose a varnish to cover the painting. You can use polyurethane, acrylic or polyurethane-acrylic varnishes. Make sure the product is fresh. The packaging must have a production date. It is better if no more than 3 months have passed since the manufacture of the varnish. Use a matte varnish, because acrylic work does not need additional shine.
Step 3
Use a flute brush to apply the varnish. The width of the working part of the tool should be from 50 to 100 mm, depending on the size of the work to be covered. The thick varnish should be applied with a short bristled brush.
Step 4
If traces of dust are found in the painting before coating, clean the surface. Warm up the varnish for ease of application. This is best done in a water bath, the temperature of which is 40 degrees.
Step 5
Secure the painting to an easel. The light source should be on the right. Apply the varnish with a flute brush from top to bottom. Make smooth sweeping strokes. The movement of the brush should be parallel to the bottom edge. Try to put a small amount of nail polish on the bristles to avoid smudges.
Step 6
Take a dry flute brush and polish the varnish. Do it fresh while the material is raw. When you feel that the brush sticks slightly to the surface, finish polishing. Excess varnish can be removed with a brush slightly dipped in pinene.
Step 7
Wait 15 minutes after finishing work and install the painting with its front surface against the wall, at an angle. If this is not done, then dust particles will adhere to the wet varnished surface. Protect the work from heat and moisture while the work is drying.
