Chiffon is the most delicate fabric that, like nothing else, emphasizes the lightness and airiness of a woman's nature. It is not easy even for experienced craftswomen to work with this material: when cutting, the fabric “crawls” on the table and confidently strives to slide off it. Therefore, when cutting chiffon, it is advisable to put a piece of dense linen fabric under it. But cutting chiffon is not the most difficult thing. It is no less difficult to process the edges of a product made of this material; here you cannot do without the advice of experienced seamstresses.

Instructions

Step 1

Please note that when sewing chiffon, use only fine sewing needles, without any defects. The way chiffon is processed depends primarily on the model of the product. If this is an ordinary long skirt, not sewn obliquely, then first process the fabric along the cut line with an overlock or a zigzag stitch on a typewriter, and it should be wide both in length and in width. Then fold over the fabric 3-5mm and simply stitch. A short skirt can be hemmed in the same way as blouses, shirts, chiffon sleeves, folding the edge after processing, not once, but twice.

Step 2

But for a skirt sewn along an oblique, process the edges of the product with a small zigzag. This will make the hem more wavy, which will visually decorate the product.

Step 3

Weight the hem of the fluffy skirt with an oblique inlay, then the chiffon will lie beautifully, without bulging or gathering. To do this, process the fabric cut in the second above-described way, putting elastic fishing line in the zigzag line, which will give the hem a beautiful wave. Keep in mind that the line is sewn in correctly if it can be freely pulled out of the seam by picking it up anywhere, i.e. the needle of the machine must not hit the line.

Step 4

Speaking about the processing of chiffon, we can also mention the so-called "French stitch". It was once used to sew the finest items from expensive and lightweight fabrics. This seam is not easy, it must be done very carefully so that the threads that have fallen from the cut of the fabric into the seam are not visible from the front side of the product.

Step 5

So, fold the parts of the product with the wrong side inward and stitch with a 5mm wide seam. Press the allowances to one side and then trim them to 3mm. After that, turn the seam to the wrong side so that the parts are facing each other with the right side. Now make a new seam 6mm from the first. The total width of the allowances for both seams is 1, 2 cm.

Step 6

When working with delicate fabrics, for convenience, place toilet paper under the seams, which can be easily removed after finishing work. Plain thin paper can be used, it will prevent the fabric from damage when it comes into contact with the conveyor of the sewing machine.

Step 7

It is appropriate to process some chiffon products with a "Moscow" stitch: fold the edges of the blouse or sleeves by 5mm in two layers, having pre-swept both hemlines. Remember, all seams must be made very carefully, otherwise the whole product will be hopelessly damaged.
