Such an uncomplicated way of decorating and repairing clothes, like applique, can be improved using a small piece of foam rubber. With its help, you can make the decor volumetric - over the entire area or only partially.
Instructions
Step 1
Find the fabric for the applique. Its texture and color should be combined with the base material and with other elements of the applique. If you do not plan to hem the edges of the patch, give preference to material that does not crumble.
Step 2
Draw an applique pattern on paper. If the drawing will consist of several parts, make a pattern for each of them. For an appliqué that you plan to hem at the edges, create a pattern with allowances. Also draw a pattern for the detail that will make the appliqué look three-dimensional. This drawing should be without allowances and less than the main part by a couple of millimeters (along the entire perimeter).
Step 3
Attach the pattern to the fabric with needles or safety pins. Circle it with chalk. Attach the second template (the smaller one) to the foam of the required thickness. The degree of convexity of the applique will depend on its volume. Cut out all the details.
Step 4
Fold the edges of the appliqué if necessary. To make the material lay down more evenly, make perpendicular notches at a distance of 3-5 mm from each other. Iron the folded fabric to fix the result.
Step 5
Attach the applique to the base. Sew the foam pad to the fabric first. Secure it with a needle-forward seam around the perimeter. Cover the foam with an applique on top. Sew it on in one of the ways.
Step 6
To make the seam invisible, grab the part of the fabric that went into the hem with the needle. Make the stitch as small as possible so that the applique is sewn not only firmly, but also as evenly as possible.
Step 7
If you are using a sewing machine, select a zigzag stitch. The top of the zigzag should protrude 1-2 mm beyond the applique.
Step 8
Additionally, a thin satin ribbon will help to decorate the contour of the patch and protect it from shedding of the fabric. Bend it along the entire length, leave the upper half on the outside of the applique, fold the inside under the wrong side. Sew the applique on a typewriter.
Step 9
You can also mask the seam with beads, beads, sequins sewn in a continuous row over the applique.
