The name "chiton" is associated primarily with the history of Ancient Greece. He came there from neighboring Asian peoples and changed somewhat. At first, the chiton was a purely men's clothing, then women began to wear it too. It is a straight linen or woolen shirt, which was sewn from one or two rectangular pieces of fabric. Its length could be different, but most often the chiton slightly covered the knees. Long clothes were worn by the gods, as well as by priests and actors.

Step 1
Take measurements. For a sleeveless tunic, you will need the length of the garment, the girth of the chest and the girth of the head. The last measurement is needed in order to make the hole of the desired size. Calculate the amount of fabric. With a width of 140-150 cm, you can take a cut equal to 1 length.
Step 2
Cut out 2 identical rectangles. Their width is equal to the half-girth of the chest with allowances added to this measurement and a few centimeters for a free fit. It's okay if the tunic is a little wider than required. The main thing is that it is not too narrow. Their length corresponds to the length of the product, taking into account the hem allowance. If you are not going to portray a god in a play or game, make a chiton up to your knees or mid-calf.
Step 3
Overlock all the edges of the rectangles. Fold them right-side up, aligning all the cuts. You can split the pieces with pins. Determine which of the short cuts will be the top, find its middle and mark it. From this point, set aside segments equal to half the circumference of the head on both sides. A longitudinal cut on the chiton is not made, so it is necessary that the head pass freely into the hole. Baste and stitch shoulder seams.
Step 4
From the top corners, set aside the width of the sleeves and mark the points. Sweep and stitch the side seams. Iron the allowances for all seams.
Step 5
Trim the neckline with tape. It is better if it is not very wide and with a geometric pattern. You can make a border to match the main fabric or contrast. Make a belt from the same braid. Since the bottom has already been sewn, it is not necessary to hem it, but you can fold it over to the wrong side by 1 cm and sew.
