Step 1
If you don't feel like fiddling with the pattern, then sew a tunic for your pregnant wife without a paper base. You need to find out only 2 measurements - the volume of the abdomen and the length of the product. Those who want to surprise their significant other can find out the size of her tummy from the medical record. The second measurement depends on whether the pregnant woman will wear a tunic as an independent clothing or will combine it with trousers and leggings.
Step 2
In the first case, take her favorite dress and measure it from the bottom of the armpits to the hem. The new sewn item will be of the same length. In the second case, the tunic will end at the middle of the thigh. Determine the length to this point from the bottom of the armpits.
Step 3
Lay the fabric so that the hem stays on the left and right. Take a large ruler or tape measure. Draw a horizontal line. Its length is equal to the volume of the tummy (first measurement). Add to this number 10-20 cm for a loose fit and 2 cm for seam allowances. The length is also known. Set aside these values by adding 5 cm. That is how many centimeters will be the two vertical sides of the rectangle.
Step 4
Cut out the resulting shape. Fold its two vertical sides right-side up. Sew inside out. The resulting seam will be located at the back. Hem the top of the garment. If you have a nice wide elastic band, then attach it to the top of the tunic. It will pass through the upper chest, armpits, and shoulder blades.
Step 5
If not, then take a narrow elastic band. Use a pin to push it through the top stitching seam. Fold the bottom of the product to the wrong side. Sew it on your hands.
Step 6
Cut 2 strips out of the same fabric. Their width is 12 cm. Measure the length in the following way. Approach your beloved from behind, compliment her ear and discreetly place one end of the rope on the bottom of the armpit in front. Next, lead it up over the shoulder and measure the length to the armpit of the back.
Step 7
Fold the first tape in half, right sides inward. Sew the two large sides together. Do the same with the second tape. Iron them on the wrong side, turn them over your face and sew them in the form of wide straps.
Step 8
You can sew a tunic according to a pattern. Put tracing paper on the pattern, redraw everything you did on it. Cut out the shelf, back. Halves of parts are usually given. Fold the fabric in half, right side in. Place the halves of these pieces on a rolled canvas. Cut out by adding 3-4 cm to the hem of the bottom and 1-1.5 cm to the other seams.
Step 9
Sew the shelf and back on the sides, joining them together. If the model has sleeves, sew each in the middle and sew into the armhole holes. Usually the sleeve is one-piece and cut out with the shelf and back. Tape the neck with a bias tape. Sew the hem on the arms.
