Instructions
Step 1
Take the pencil that matches the lightest color on the dog's coat. In this case, we'll look at and sketch the Labrador Retriever with a white pencil. Let's draw lines that should be very light.
Step 2
Continuing to work with a white pencil, paint over the brightly lit areas on the dog's face and body. The pencil strokes should be loose, imitating the texture of thick wool. The jagged white outlines will then gently shift with darker tones.
Step 3
Take a dark brown pencil and outline the outline of the darkest parts of the drawing. These are the eyes, collar and nose, as well as the shadows behind the ears. It is important not to miss a single detail when depicting the dog's face. This is the most important expressive element of the composition, conveying the character of the animal, so you need to draw, constantly referring to the dog itself or its photograph.
Step 4
Start working on the texture of the wool with dark brown and white pencils, ocher and burnt ocher. Apply long, confident strokes that follow the direction of the coat. The ponytail is recreated using cross-hatching.
Step 5
Take an indigo pencil and paint over the shaded areas on the dog's body. Draw shadows on the lower surface of the abdomen and behind the front paws, and then use the same pencil to deepen the shadows on the muzzle and under the ear.
Step 6
Paint ocher on the dog's ear and face, and then paint brown spots on his legs and body. Draw the details of the collar in dark brown pencil.
Step 7
Paint over the surface of the nose with ocher and burnt ocher. Find the location of the highlight on your pet's wet and shiny nose and draw it onto the drawing with a white pencil.
Step 8
The light in the painting falls from the right. Use a white pencil to paint highlights on the paws. Then shade the middle part of each paw with an indigo pencil and blend the borders smoothly with blue and white shading.
Step 9
Use a white pencil to color the entire coat of the dog. If you notice that the drawing looks blurry and flat after that, add a few strokes of an intense brown tone and ocher pencil.
Step 10
Deepen the contour lines and shadows in the darkest areas of the nose, eyes, mouth and collar using a sharply sharpened black pencil.
Step 11
Take an indigo pencil and add textured strokes in the most shaded areas - under the chest and on the paws of the dog. Using the same pencil, underline the folds on the labrador's belly. Deepen the rest of the shadows to match them with the most intense shadows just drawn.
