The ball was not always the way we know it now. The rubber ball came later. They made balls mainly from improvised and natural materials: from sheep and cow wool, they were woven from birch bark and bast. For the smallest children, they sewed rag balls.

Instructions
Step 1
The ball is a large triangle.
Make a custom-sized cardboard equilateral triangle template. Cut 36 pieces from the template. Make the bottom: join 12 pieces into two hexagons. And grind the remaining parts into two strips, each consisting of 12 triangles (see diagram).
Step 2
Sew the strips together along long cuts with a shift in one triangle. Please note that short cuts of the strip must be stapled at an angle of 60 °. Sew two hexagons (the bottom of the ball) to the wide strip on both sides. Sew the strip joint halfway, leaving a hole for the packing. Turn the ball out and fill with padding polyester, close the hole with a blind seam.
Step 3
The ball is small from squares.
Prepare 12 squares measuring 5 * 5 cm or 4 * 4 cm by cutting them along the shared thread. The ball is a cube, but it becomes round thanks to the diagonal ribs of the square pieces that stretch when stuffed.
Step 4
Sew 4 strips of 3 squares each, spreading them down by a ladder, shifting down one square. Join the "ladder" into one large blank, then lock into a ring with jagged edges. Sew the teeth together in pairs, closing the remaining seams. Leave a hole for packing. Turn the ball out, fill it with filler, sew up the hole with a blind stitch.
Step 5
Modern pentagon ball.
Make a regular pentagon pattern and cut out 12 pieces. Sew 5 pieces to the sixth, center piece, then join adjacent pieces. Thus, repeat the steps for the rest of the details. Sew the resulting hemispheres along the broken line, leaving one padding seam uncovered. Turn out, fill with padding polyester, sew up the hole.
