Today shops provide a wide selection of a wide variety of items. But it is much more pleasant not just to go and choose this or that little thing for the house, but to do it yourself. Moreover, this does not always require serious efforts - so, almost every person can make a candle from soap.
It is necessary
- - laundry soap;
- - wick;
- - metal bowl;
- - decorative form.
Instructions
Step 1
Take a bar of regular laundry soap and shave off the shavings. You will need about half the size of a standard piece. Prepare a small metal container - a bowl or even a tin can and put the resulting "sawdust" there. Fill the container with water so that it covers the shavings, then make a water bath. To do this, place the jar or bowl in a saucepan with water so that it does not touch the bottom, and the water reaches approximately to its middle.
Step 2
Turn on a medium heat and watch the soap dissolve. Stir it occasionally with a wooden spoon or stick to speed up the reaction. When finished, turn off the heat and start pouring vinegar into the container. Stearin will appear on the surface - a thick white mass.
Step 3
Wait until the mixture has cooled, and use a spoon to collect all the stearin formed. Rinse it several times, then wrap it with a rag and wait until it dries completely. Now you can start the actual candle making process.
Step 4
Heat the stearin so that it melts a little, and dip the prepared wick in it. Let it harden. Repeat the procedure and let harden again. Continue this sequence of actions until you have obtained a candle of the required volume.
Step 5
Use a decorative shape if you want a custom candle. It can be made of any material - wood, metal. Place the stearin-soaked wick in a container so that it falls in the middle of it, and then pour in the hot stearin. Your candle will be ready soon!
Step 6
Try the opposite procedure: make soap from a stearin candle that has been broken into pieces. Use a water bath again, but this time add a concentrated solution of washing soda to the molten mass. Wait a few minutes and then pour the resulting liquid into the mold. Once it has set, you can test how well your soap is performing.
