Instructions

Step 1

Before you start making the gel, you need to prepare the rest of the candle components. You can even make your first candle in a regular glass, mug or vase. It is better to choose a transparent vessel with a large diameter, so that it is convenient to lay out the decorations, and the flame does not touch the edges of the container. The glass must be durable.

One of the important components of a candle is a wick; it can either be purchased ready-made or made of cotton cord. Soak 3 laces of the same size in a solution prepared from 1 tablespoon of salt, 2 tablespoons of boric acid and half a glass of water. Then the laces are dried and rolled up. To impart a pleasant smell to the helium candle, various aromatic components are introduced into the wick, for example, orange or rose essential oil.

Step 2

To make candle gel, you need to purchase gelatin, tannin, glycerin and distilled water. Gelatin in an amount of 10 g is dissolved in 40 g of water, the proportions are 1: 4. Then add 50 g of glycerin. The mixture must be heated over low heat until the components are completely dissolved. Then 4 g of tannin in a separate container is dissolved in 20 g of glycerin heated over low heat. The mixture will turn out cloudy, but if you boil it a little, it will become clear as water. Next, you should mix both mixtures in one vessel. The finished gel can be colored with food coloring.

Step 3

Do not be afraid of air bubbles in the resulting gel, after making a candle, it must be placed in a sunny place and small bubbles will gradually disappear.

Do not overheat the gel, as it may become cloudy. Before pouring the candle, it is advisable to heat the mold in the oven, due to which the number of air bubbles will decrease, since there will not be a strong temperature difference. Pour the finished gel into the prepared container gently along the walls. It is better to fill helium candles with decorative materials that are not flammable.
