Knitted coats returned to fashion in 2012, when couturier Miuccia Prada included them in her fall / spring collection. Hooded coats have become especially popular this season. Knitted by hand from soft and thick yarns, they are stylish and very cozy outfits for cool weather.
Choice of yarn and tools for knitting a hooded coat
The knitted fashion of this season is varied, the trend is the silhouettes of the 50-70s, so a knitted coat can be of the most varied shape: trapezoidal, fitted and O-shaped. But the easiest way is to knit a product of a rectangular silhouette. To knit the coat with an unusual color and texture, for knitting, use yarn of two shades in the same color scheme, for example, burgundy and bronze or dark blue and gray.
To knit a coat with a hood of size 48, you will need:
- 1000 g of soft and thick twisted yarn (67m / 100g) in two shades (500 g of each color);
- straight needles No. 6-6, 5;
- 3 auxiliary knitting needles;
- sewing machine and matching threads;
- 1 button.
How to knit a fantasy pattern
A coat tied with elongated loops looks very impressive. Tie the pattern and calculate the required number of stitches for knitting. Cast on 20 loops and knit in the first and second rows all the loops with the front thread of the same color, in the next - third, knit 1 elongated loop (for this, insert the knitting needle into the corresponding loop of the previous row and knit 1 knit), the second loop is just the front one, repeat to the end rows, alternating between elongated and front loops.
In the fourth row, go to knitting with a second shade of thread and knit the entire row with the front ones. In the fifth, alternate 1 elongated loop and 1 knit loop to the end of the row, as described above. Next, continue from the 3rd to the 6th row, alternating threads of a different shade in every second. The knitting density of the fancy pattern with elongated loops in a 10x10 cm sample should be 15 loops and 30 rows. If their number is different, then make your own calculations for knitting.
Back of coat
To knit a coat with a size 48 hood, cast on the needles in the usual way 72 loops and knit directly in a fancy pattern. Depending on the desired length of the product, at a height of 50-60 cm from the typesetting row, begin to knit the armholes. To do this, it is necessary to close the parts on both sides in every second row 1 time by 3, 1 time by 2 and 1 time by 1 loop.
At a height of 70-80 cm, finish knitting the backrest part. On both sides of the back of the coat, close 18 loops of the shoulders, and 24 loops that remained uncovered 24 loops in the middle of the part, transfer to the auxiliary knitting needle.
Coat shelves
Make the first row of 46 stitches. On the right side of the part, start knitting a garter stitch bar on 4 loops (knit all loops with the front and in the front and back rows). Next, knit a row with a fancy pattern with elongated loops.
After knitting, 50-60 cm (in accordance with the length of the back), begin to knit the armholes. How to knit the sleeves of the product
Make a typesetting row of 54 loops and, starting from the first row, knit the sleeves with a fancy pattern, while in each 30th row add on each side of the detail 4 times, 1 loop. Having knitted 42 cm, on both sides of the sleeve detail, close in every second row 1 time 3, 1 time 2, 15 times 1 and 3 times 3 loops. Then knit straight and close all remaining loops at a height of 56-58 cm from the beginning of knitting.
How to tie a hood
Set aside 22 loops of the right shelf, then transfer 24 loops of the back and 22 loops of the left shelf from the auxiliary knitting needles to the working ones. On both sides, knit with garter stitch on 4 loops, and on the remaining 60 with a fancy pattern. Close all loops at a height of 30 cm from the neckline.
Assembling the product
Before you start sewing the coat, wet all the details. Squeeze them out slightly without twisting. Place on a flat surface. Flatten thoroughly and let dry.
Then fold the details of the shelves and backs with the right sides inward and sew the shoulder sections and the top of the hood. Sew the sleeves into the armholes. Stitch the sides and sew the seams on the sleeves.
Fold the bottom edges of the coat and sleeves 5 cm to the wrong side. Sew them by hand with a blind stitch.
To sew the planks, cast on 7 stitches on the needles and knit straight on the wrong side of the stitch. At a height of 60 cm from the typesetting row, at a distance of 3 cm from the edge, knit 1 hole for the button (knit 2 loops together, then make 1 yarn over). At a height of 218-238 cm from the beginning of knitting (the value depends on the length of the coat), close all the loops. Sew the piping to the slats and the neckline of the back with a blind stitch. Sew one large flat button to the right side of your coat.
