In 2003, readers were able to get acquainted with the novel "The Geographer Drank the Globe on Drink" by the modern writer from Perm Alexei Ivanov. The work aroused the interest of readers, critics and filmmakers - in 2007, Valery Todorovsky discussed the possibility of film adaptation of the work with the author. And now the time for the release of a new picture seems to be around the corner.
Todorovsky is widely known in our country as a cinematic universal - as a producer he paved the way for the viewer for the films "Piranha Hunt", "The Master and Margarita" and almost three dozen other films. As a director, Todorovsky worked on "Hipsters", "Country of the Deaf", "My Stepbrother Frankenstein" and others, as a screenwriter he took part in the creation of "The Scourge of God", "Gambrinus", etc. And shooting as an actor is also in his biography. The creation of a new film based on the novel by Alexei Ivanov under the leadership of Todorovsky was included in the support program for socially significant film projects of the Cinema Support Fund.
However, the shooting of the film began only in 2010 by the chief director and screenwriter Alexander Veledinsky, winner of several cinematographic awards in recent years, known for his work on the series “Brigade” and “Law”, the film “Russian” based on the works of Eduard Limonov. The first block of filming took place in Perm in 2010, and the second took place on the Usva River in the spring of 2012. The film's producer Valery Todorovsky says that it will appear in the box office in the future, 2013.
The novel, which is the basis for the film "Geographer Drank the Globe", tells about the life of a man who lives in the provinces and has a lot of problems, ranging from lack of money and unsettled personal life, ending with a lack of meaning in existence. He went to work as a teacher in school “out of nothing to do”, but this work dragged on and significantly influenced the feeling of himself and the world around him, while simultaneously creating new problems. The entire second block of works by filmmakers in the Perm Territory was devoted to filming the rafting of a teacher with his class on the river. The main character, Sluzhkina, is played by Konstantin Khabensky, and besides him, Elena Lyadova, Alexander Robak, Agrippina Steklova, Evgenia Brik, Anfisa Chernykh, Anna Ukolova, Nastya Zolotko and a whole class of Perm schoolchildren are involved in the film.
