The Snow Globe is a popular New Year or Christmas souvenir. No other thing is associated with the winter holidays like this one. Indeed, one has only to turn the jar over or shake it a little, and a real blizzard begins inside. A great idea is to make a "snow globe" with your own hands. Moreover, this is a simple process that even a child can handle.
Materials required to create a "snow globe"
To make a magic "snow globe", take:
- a clear glass or plastic jar with a screw cap;
- glycerol;
- distilled water;
- "Moment" or any other waterproof glue;
- sequins, artificial snow;
- figurines made of plastic or ceramics.
A gift to please a loved one for the New Year can be made from almost any transparent container with a lid. But if you are making a toy for a child, it is best not to use glass jars, as they can break. The best option is plastic containers for shampoo or bath foam. Take a small jar with a volume of 250-500 ml.
Figures for the "snow globe" can be any. The only condition is that they should easily fit in a jar. In addition, it is not recommended to use metal toys as they can rust in water.
How many figures will be inside your "snow globe" - you decide. You can put one large statuette of your favorite hero, or create a whole world with Christmas trees, houses and various fairy-tale characters. Moreover, you can use both ready-made toys and mold them with your own hands from plasticine or polymer clay.
When choosing figurines, keep in mind that glass and water have the properties of a magnifying glass, and a large composition in a "snow globe" will seem shapeless and bloated, so it is worth picking up small toys (for example, from a kinder surprise).
Ball decor - step by step instructions
- Unscrew the lid from the jar and wash it thoroughly. If necessary, paint the inside in a suitable color and let the paint dry.
- Apply a drop of glue to the underside of the figures. Let it dry for 1-2 minutes and attach the toys to the inside of the lid.
- Pour distilled water into the prepared jar (you should not use simple tap water, as it will deteriorate very quickly in the jar and acquire an unpleasant odor). The liquid should not reach the edge of the jar by about 1-2 cm.
- Pour 1-2 tablespoons of glycerin into the water (this substance can be purchased at any pharmacy). The more glycerin there is in the jar, the slower the snow will spin and settle.
- Add 2 teaspoons of glitter and artificial snow to the glycerin water. You can also make a snowdrift from white tinsel. To do this, it is enough to cut it into very, very small pieces.
- Mix the mixture thoroughly.
- Apply glue to the edges of the can and to the threads of the lid and screw it on. Let the glue dry completely for 24 hours.
- After that, you can turn the can over, shake it and watch the snow fall inside the ball.
