There is no such person who, at least once in his life, when looking at the seeds of a particularly tasty orange, did not have a thought: "Eh, I would grow my own tree out of them …". Some even bury the seeds in the ground, wait for seedlings, without waiting, throw out the contents of the pot and lament that they did not succeed. Meanwhile. Growing an orange on your own windowsill is not only possible, but not at all difficult.
It is necessary
- - soil mixture
- - flower pot
- - orange seed
Instructions
Step 1
The main mistake of failed "orange growers" is that they take absolutely unsuitable soil for these purposes. Ordinary garden and flower soil is not suitable for citrus fruits; you will have to prepare a special soil mixture.
Step 2
Mix in approximately equal proportions sand, earth, peat and fine expanded clay. The mixture should be very light, allow air to pass through well and be able to retain moisture for a long time. Fill the bottom of the flower pot with drainage mixture, fill the remaining space with soil substrate. Determine the place for the pot by the window facing south or east. Do not send the future orange to the kitchen, even the smallest particles of steam or smoke will harm the plant.
Step 3
Soak the bone for a day in warm water, put it in a pot. You will have to wait not just long, but very long. Some bones do not wake up until 2 months after planting. Of course, it will be a little boring to water an empty pot for weeks, but one day your perseverance will be rewarded, you will see a tiny orange sprout.
Step 4
Water for irrigation should be taken boiled and softened with a couple of citric acid crystals. Do not let the soil dry out, but do not flood it either. Try to keep the temperature in the room at 18-20 degrees, and the plant itself is well lit by the sun. Weather permitting, you can take the orange out into the fresh air. Just do not leave a young plant under the scorching rays of the sun, shade it to avoid burns.
Step 5
In winter, store the orange in a bright but cool place. The room temperature should be kept at 12-15 degrees. Reduce watering in winter to once a month. A plant that has rested over the winter will grow again in the spring.
Step 6
After 5 years, you can try to induce the tree to set the first buds. To do this, place the plant in very cold conditions for the winter. The room temperature should be between 5-8 ° C. With the arrival of warmth, begin to intensively care for the plant, organize a lot of heat and light for it, feed it with fertilizers and after a while your little pet will delight you with its first fruits.
