A transverse thread (or broach) is a "bridge" connecting two adjacent loops in a row horizontally. During the knitting process, you may need it to complete additional loops. This allows you to expand the various elements of the cut (sleeves, waistline, skirt wedges, etc.). You can make the increments almost imperceptible, with a certain slope, or leave small holes on the knitted fabric - they play up an interesting piece of clothing and emphasize its shape.

Instructions
Step 1
Tie the product to the place of the required expansion of the web. To add the cross thread on the front horizontal row, sew at least one stitch on the right (working) knitting needle.
Step 2
Insert the left knitting needle under the cross thread between the adjacent stitches on the right and left needles. At the same time, move the working tool forward from the reverse side of the work.
Step 3
Twist the broach, then knit it behind the front wall (like a regular front loop). With this expansion of knitting, gains are obtained with a tilt to the right. From the front side of the product, the untrained eye will hardly notice them.
Step 4
Finish the front row and try adding a purl loop from the broach. To do this, you need to insert the left knitting needle (again a forward movement is made) under the transverse thread between adjacent loops on different knitting needles. Next, you should knit a broach like a regular purl loop (for the front lobule).
Step 5
Add a transverse thread so that it tilts to the left. In this case, the spoke is inserted under the broach in the opposite direction - from front to back.
Step 6
Then the cross thread is twisted, and the front crossed loop (knitted behind the back wall) is performed.
Step 7
If you need to add a knitted fabric from the wrong side of the work, then follow the pattern. However, in this case, a purl crossed loop is tied.
Step 8
Practice making decorative increments. This method allows you to make a vertical row of holes in the places of the knitted transverse threads. Proceed from the "face" of the work: insert the left knitting needle under the broach, but do not twist it, but knit like a crossed knitting needle.
Step 9
On the purl row, insert the left knitting needle backward and knit a cross thread like a regular purl loop.
Step 10
You can add loops within one horizontal row. In this case, a broach is knitted connecting the adjacent loops of the underlying row. Thread the cross thread onto the left knitting needle and knit like a knit one:
- insert the spoke from front to back;
- drag the thread;
- put the resulting loop on the right (working) knitting needle.
If at the same time the broach does not twist, then holes appear on the canvas. To avoid them, make crossed loops.
