Mittens with a knitted pattern or ornament do not need additional decor, and plain or striped two-color mittens can be decorated with woolen threads, ribbons, lace, beads and pieces of fabric.

Step 1
Flowers can be embroidered on the back of the mittens. To do this, use woolen threads of approximately the same thickness. Make the core of daisies, sunflowers or poppies using French knots - an embroidery method with two or three turns on a needle. To create plant stems, use a back stitch or chain stitch, in which case the branches will consist of chain links. If you want to place small roses on the mittens, use a knot and a Rococo loop, they are similar to French knots, but the number of threads per needle in them is much larger. It is not necessary to make the pattern on the mittens symmetrical, the main thing is that the color scheme is the same for both. Do not overtighten the thread you are embroidering, as the wool may shrink and pull off the pattern during washing.
Step 2
You can also decorate mittens with ribbons, with their help you can create flowers, outlandish birds and an ornament. Pull the tapes into the holes between the hinges, carefully fasten them on the back. If you are using synthetic ribbons, burn the edge to prevent it from unraveling. But try not to have too many places for fastening the tapes, because the scalded edges will scratch your hands, and the surface of the back of the mitten will look uneven.
Step 3
For decorating mittens, use thin lace, its combination with dense knit will be especially eclectic. It is enough to gently sew a strip of lace around the mitten at wrist level or where the thumb is separated from the rest. Choose lace that contrasts with the main thread color. Fasten the lace with small blind stitches along the entire length on both sides. Try to keep the thread from pulling the knitted fabric. On the back of the mitten, sew a few pea-sized beads on the lace.
Step 4
With the help of small pieces of dense fabric, you can make an applique on the mittens. Sketch the drawing that you are going to create on the mitten, cut out the necessary details from paper, make fabric patterns. Using a buttonhole stitch, carefully sew each piece from all sides to the knitted fabric, hide the threads from the back. In addition to fabric motifs, use a double-sided satin stitch made with woolen threads.
