The easiest way to decorate a hat is to match it with a brooch. If the hat is knitted in dense knit, and there are no patterns on it, an elegant brooch will be the perfect complement. If the brooch is made of gold-colored metal, then use it on items of warm colors: brown, orange, yellow, beige. If the brooch is made of ordinary metal, like silver, then it will look good on a gray, white, pink or blue cap. In this case, a black cap is universal; any brooches are suitable for this color.

If the hat is crocheted and there is an openwork pattern in it, then it can be decorated by threading a thin satin braid. You can choose the color of the braid exactly to match or make the decoration in a contrasting color. It is most convenient to thread the tape with a large crochet. Please note that the braid is not elastic, unlike the knitted hat. By attaching the tape around the entire circumference, you can reduce the size of the garment. Therefore, it is better to leave the ends of the braid on the seamy side in order to tie inconspicuous knots there, having previously tried on the hat.

You can also decorate the hat by treating the bottom edge with a special strapping - the so-called "crustacean step". To do this, take a crochet hook, threads, and knit several rows of single crochets in the opposite direction. That is why this method of knitting is called the "rachis step".
