An elegant frill can decorate even an evening dress, not to mention a carnival costume. Some fairy-tale characters simply cannot do without such a detail. You can make a frill from cotton fabric and lace.
What is a frill made of?
The jabot consists of three main parts - the base, sewn on or removable placket and lace frills. An elastic band is sewn to the base, which is fastened with a hook, button or clip on the back under the collar. The base pattern is easy. Most of all, it looks like a pattern for a baby bib apron. Take a piece of graph paper, fold it in half and from the fold draw a half oval, semicircle or half of a drop expanding downward. Cut out the detail and try on around the neck. Fold the top edge to fit the neckline, then trim off the excess. Cut out a strip - a strip 5-8 cm wide. The length of the strip is the size of a frill from the neck to the bottom. Leave an allowance of 0.5 mm wide strip.
Symmetry must always be observed, so align the top edge before cutting the fabric base.
Cutting the details
It is better to double the base. It is better to cut it according to the share, but since a frill for a fancy dress, which you will rarely wear, this rule can be neglected, especially if you have little fabric at hand. Fold the fabric right side in, circle the piece and cut out, leaving a 0.5 cm allowance for the hem. Stitch the details on the wrong side. Start stitching from the neckline, leaving the cut at the neck open. Unscrew the workpiece and iron it out. Press the upper seam allowance inward. Prepare the plank - fold the allowances on the seamy side, iron and trim the corners.
The bar can also be clip-on. Then you need to make it double, and place the slotted loops in the center.
Sewing lace
Lay the foundation in front of you. Draw the middle vertical line along the ruler with colored chalk. From it, at equal distances on both sides, draw another 2-3 lines, also vertical. This is enough for wide lace. If the lace is narrow, the distance between the lines should be less so that the edge of the overlying lace fabric covers the seam of the previous layer. Do not cut the lace, leave a long tape, which you will divide as you sew each layer. Sew the edge where the tape will be stitched to the base with a basting seam and tighten a little. It is better to sew lace on a frill vertically, starting from the side edges. Baste the outer frills, then stitch and trim the edge. Make the following ruffles strictly along the vertical lines. Baste and stitch. Sew the rest of the ruffles in the same way. Only the center line should be left blank. Carefully baste the placket so that the middle of the placket lines up with the middle of the frill, and the edges cover the seams of the top layer of lace. Sew the placket close to the edge with threads to match the fabric. Sew on the elastic. Try on a frill, cut off the ends of the elastic and sew the fastening elements to them. Such a frill will be easy to remove, but only when you need it.
