The ability to sew fancy dresses for a Barbie doll will come in handy if you have a daughter, granddaughter or niece. For this work, you will need not only material and threads, but also imagination and perseverance. It will be much easier for you to make a dress if you plan and sketch the model in advance.

It is necessary

A sheet of paper, pencil, cloth, needle, thread, scissors, beads, rhinestones, Velcro tape, hat elastic, lighter

Instructions

Step 1

Plan a dress model for Barbie, decide if it will be a floor-length outfit, or the skirt will end above the knees. Draw a sketch of the future dress with a pencil on a piece of paper, be sure to draw a front and back view. Even if you do not draw very beautifully, depict as you can the important details: the length of the dress, the splendor of its skirt, the neckline, etc.

Step 2

Prepare the fabric for the dress. It can be silk, satin, brocade, etc. Keep in mind that the edges of natural silk open up strongly and do not melt over the fire, and you can gently melt the edges of the satin with a lighter so that they do not unravel into threads. Knitwear, satin or chintz are rarely suitable for an elegant dress. If you are planning a double skirt, get guipure, organza, tulle or lace.

Step 3

Choose the colors of the fabric to your taste, but remember that elegant dresses often have delicate shades - pink, blue, peach and white. If you want to combine several colors, select a palette of the same saturation, i.e. when choosing one bright, juicy color, others should be saturated, and when using a pale color, take another flap in a pastel tone.

Step 4

To cut the fabric, you can first make patterns or go the other way - immediately mark the necessary lines on the fabric. Measure the doll, because Barbie is a miniature doll, it will be more convenient to use a thread, and not a centimeter tape. Measure your waist and transfer the size to the sewing pattern. If you want to make a half-sun skirt, fold the fabric in half and measure the distance from the corner, and if you like a fluffy “sun” skirt, fold the fabric four times. The pattern of a straight skirt resembles a rectangle. Measure the length of the skirt from the doll's waist and mark it on the pattern. Step back from the line that means the length, 3 mm and draw another line, you will need a supply of fabric for the hem. If you marked all measurements on the pattern, transfer the parameters of the part to the material.

Step 5

Start marking the top of the dress. It is more convenient for Barbie to sew the top of the dress in the form of a corset or like a shirt, but the first option is more suitable for elegant dresses. If a different style is planned in your sketch, for example, a neckline with a transition to the shoulders, you can sew the fabric over the corset. To mark the corset, measure the doll's waist, bust and height from the waist to the top of the bust. Transfer measurements to the fabric.

Step 6

Cut out the details of the dress, singe the edges over the lighter if the material melts easily. Start sewing the product. A hat elastic can be threaded through the waist of the skirt to make the dress easy to put on. Otherwise, make an incision on the back side and sew a piece of Velcro into it. Sew one part of the tape with a sticky base to one half of the dress, and the other with hooks to the other. Be sure to overcast the edges of the garment.

Step 7

The dress can be decorated with rhinestones or embroidered with beads. To do this, sew on the decorations according to your sketch. You can also embroider the dress symmetrically with beads in the form of flowers or randomly, like a bright placer. You can decorate the outfit, for example, by spiraling a lace ribbon around the hem of the dress.
