Hand sewing machines are still very popular. This is understandable: some old machines are capable of sewing fabrics that are too tough for the more delicate and less versatile modern machines. But manual machines have their own characteristics that must be taken into account in work. And above all, you need to learn how to refuel it.

Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the spool. It is better to wind the threads on it at once, so as not to be distracted later. After winding the threads by hand or using the same machine, insert the bobbin into the hook so that the direction of the thread matches the direction of the slit. The hook can be inserted into the shuttle immediately so that it does not get lost and does not interfere.
Step 2
Slide the spool over the top pin. Some older typewriters have two pins on the body of the car, so you need the one closer to the flywheel. Unwind the end of the thread by 20 centimeters. Raise the machine foot and place it in the highest position.
Step 3
Pass the thread from the spool into the upper thread guide - this is such a small indentation on the side of the machine on your left. It comes in a round or triangular shape with a slot. Insert the thread into the upper thread tension regulator - a special device on the same wall of the machine, consisting of several metal washers. Pass the thread between these washers. The regulator must be rounded from below. On the side of the adjuster closest to you, you will see a hook called the thread guide. Get a thread into it.
Step 4
Pass the thread through the spring on the back wall closer to you. On some models of machines, this spring is not, then the thread immediately lead into the hole of the thread follower.
Step 5
Pass the thread into the lower thread guide. On more or less modern machines, there can be two such thread guides, on very old ones - there can only be a hook on the needle holder. Insert the thread there, then thread it into the eye of the needle from the side of the groove.
Step 6
Pull out the bobbin thread in the same way as on any other sewing machine - by raising the foot and lowering the needle holder with the needle down. Adjust the upper and lower thread tension. To do this, it is recommended to take any shred and try sewing in different modes, tightening the screw of the upper thread tension regulator and changing the stitch length using a special foot located on the side panel.
