Experienced seamstresses and those who are just learning how to work with a sewing machine often have to deal with a broken machine needle. If you have changed the needle more than once, then you know that this is a completely simple operation. It is quite another matter when the needle breaks or bends for the first time, or there is a need to change the needle, and the manual for the operation of the machine is lost. How to properly insert the needle into the sewing machine?
It is necessary
- - the needle of the desired number;
- - screwdriver.
Instructions
Step 1
If the needle is broken or bent, it must be carefully removed. To do this, disconnect the power supply (on electric machine models). Use the handwheel to carefully move the needle bar to its highest position.
Step 2
Use a screwdriver to loosen the needle clamp screw and remove the needle. Pay attention to which direction the flat side was directed on the needle bulb - flat. In different models of machines, the needle can be flattened away from itself or towards the machine sleeve. If the needle breaks, check to see if the broken tip of the needle remains in the fabric or in the hook. Having taken out the needle, do not rush to throw it away, take a look at the number stamped on the flask.
Step 3
Purchase several spare needles of the same number from a sewing store. Please note that needles of the same number may vary in length. So when installing a needle that is too short or, on the contrary, longer, the sewing machine can become capricious and start making gaps in the line. In addition, the needle must be sharp, straight and well polished. Be aware that barbed needles can cause frequent thread breaks or deformation of the fabric.
Step 4
Insert a new needle into the slot of the needle bar upwards until it stops. Make sure that the flat side of the needle (flat) is facing the same direction as the old needle. Tighten the needle clamp screw.
Step 5
Thread the machine and check the stitch quality on a test piece of fabric. Carefully make a few turns with the handwheel to make sure that the new needle does not catch (bump) on the hook cap. Plug in the drive and test sewing.
