An improperly set needle in the sewing machine can cause malfunctioning, skipped stitches, thread breakage, and the needle can simply break. To prevent this, follow some simple rules when replacing the needle.

Instructions

Step 1

Sewing and handicraft stores sell standard home sewing machine needles that will fit any model. However, when choosing a needle, be guided by the type of fabric you are going to work with. The thickness of the needle you need and the method of sharpening it depends on the fabric.

Step 2

There are different models of sewing machines, and the method of installing the needle may differ depending on the make and model of the machine. When replacing a needle (good, bent, or broken), pay attention to which way the flat side is turned on the top of the needle (flat). In some models, the needle is inserted with the flat side away from you, in others the flat side should look to the left (for example, "Podolsk"). The thread is always inserted into the needle from the opposite side - where the long groove of the needle is. That is, if the flat side is directed away from you, insert the thread away from you, if it looks to the left, insert the thread from right to left.

Step 3

Use the handwheel to move the needle to the highest position.

Step 4

Loosen or loosen the screw holding the needle in the machine. Carefully remove the needle or the broken part.

Step 5

Insert the new needle all the way up, following the direction of the flat side of the needle. If you do not have instructions and you have not noticed which side of the previous needle was, look at the last thread guide. On the same side where it is located, there should be a long groove of the needle, and, accordingly, the flat should look in the opposite direction.

Step 6

Tighten the screw as far as it will go.
