Despite the fact that stretching a canvas onto a stretcher is not a creative process at all, it is very important for an artist. Only a properly stretched canvas will not allow the ground to collapse and will preserve the picture for a long time.
It is necessary
Stretcher, canvas, stapler / nails and hammer, canvas stretching tongs
Instructions
Step 1
Position the canvas so that the threads are exactly parallel to the edges of the stretcher. Mentally divide the upper horizontal side of the stretcher in half and fix the canvas exactly in the center with a staple using a stapler (you can also use nails with a hammer). Stretch the canvas with special tongs and secure in the middle of the parallel bottom side. Also, in the center, attach the left and right sides in sequence.
Step 2
Position the next bracket approximately 3 cm from the first attachment point on the upper horizontal frame. Stretch the canvas evenly, with equal force, and stagger the staples or nails to avoid damaging the stretcher.
Step 3
Continue to fasten the canvas, moving from the center (from the staples already driven in) to the corners of the stretcher. Try to calculate the number of attachment points so that the distance between them is the same. At the corners, fold the canvas and secure.
Step 4
If the subframe is modular, after completing the process, pull out the brackets holding its corners, and hammer the wedges into the grooves at the corners.
