In order to depict a rook, it is necessary to understand what characteristic features of the body structure and plumage distinguish representatives of the raven genus from other birds, and reflect these details in the drawing.
Instructions
Step 1
Begin the drawing by constructing two auxiliary ovals corresponding to the head and body of the bird. Note that the bird's body is about 3 times the size of the head. If you want to depict a rook sitting on a branch, place the ovals under each other, but if the bird walks on the ground and looks for food, both auxiliary parts should be on a line almost parallel to the ground. Keep in mind that the size of an adult is quite large, the body length reaches 45 cm, but still the rook is inferior to its closest relative, the crow.
Step 2
Connect both ovals with smooth lines. Draw a seal where the head meets the torso at the back. If the bird's head is elevated, outline a strong ribcage.
Step 3
Draw the head. Highlight the eyebrow of the bird; soft small feathers grow on it. In the front of the head, depict the bird's powerful beak, its tip pointing down. Its length is comparable to the size of a rook's head. There are no feathers on the beak. Step away from the base of the upper part of the beak for about a third of its length and draw the nostrils. Draw round eyes near the base, they are small, slightly larger than the opening of the nostril.
Step 4
Draw the wings of the bird. The length of the flight feathers is not very great; when folded, they slightly extend beyond the body of the bird. The direction of the wing coincides with the tail line.
Step 5
Draw the tail of the rook. The length of the tail feathers of this bird is approximately 2/3 the size of the body. The lateral tail feathers are somewhat shorter than the central ones.
Step 6
Select the lower third of the auxiliary oval corresponding to the body, from this point start drawing the legs of the rook. The upper part is covered with small feathers, their structure is similar to those that cover the belly of a bird. The paws themselves are devoid of plumage and end in strong claws, three fingers are directed forward, one - back.
Step 7
Start coloring the picture. The plumage of an adult is black, has a purple tint. The beak of a rook, unlike that of a raven, is not black, but gray or light hazel. The bird's eyes are black.
