The lining, hemmed under the skirt, performs several tasks at once. Such a skirt will not show through if it is made of very thin fabric. It will not wrinkle if you have to sit for a long time. The skirt will fit or fall perfectly, even if you wear it with tights. These advantages are especially noticeable in a pencil skirt.
Instructions
Step 1
Make a pattern for a standard two-seam skirt. Its length depends on your preference and shape. To make the pencil skirt fit perfectly, this drawing needs to be slightly modified.
Step 2
Trim the hem of the skirt down. From the side seam line along the bottom line, set aside 2 cm to narrow the skirt. Find the intersection of the hip line and the side seam in the drawing. Depart from this point downward by 8 cm. From this section, draw a segment downward to the point obtained on the bottom line.
Step 3
To keep your tight skirt free to move, make one or two cuts. If you want to get the job done as quickly as possible, leave cuts to the right and left of the seam lines. Mark their height on the pattern and simply fold over and overcast the edges of the fabric when sewing.
Step 4
Instead of cuts, you can make a slot on the back of the skirt. To do this, this part must be cut out not from a single piece of fabric, but from two halves. Measure from the bottom line the height to the knees and put a dot on the middle seam. The left half of the panel will need to be folded and hemmed, and on the right side, cut out a rectangular piece (8 cm wide) and fold in half, forming a 4 cm wide slot.
Step 5
Transfer the pattern to the fabric (add 2-4 cm seam allowances). Duplicate it on fabric for lining - choose a sliding material that matches the color and will not electrify. This detail should be shorter than the skirt - to reach the beginning of the slots or cutouts.
Step 6
Process the lining first. Fold and hem the hem, process darts, side seams. Sometimes, to simplify the work on the luggage, folds are made instead of darts. However, such a model will look less neat.
Step 7
Sweep away the details of the skirt. Finish darts, side seams, hem. Connect the lining to the skirt at the belt line, then sew on the belt itself. Try on a skirt. If she fits, use the sewing machine to sew all seams, starting at the waist and working downward.
