Instructions

Step 1

Complete the sketch, carefully working out the details. All parts of the face should be in proportion to the original, the similarity should be maximum. To do this, first draw straight lines on the photo. One should connect the center of the top of the forehead to the middle of the bottom of the chin. The other two should cross it, being drawn from the middle of the top of the right eye to the middle of the top of the left, and also from the middle of the bottom of the right to the middle of the bottom of the left. Transfer these lines to the sketch, do not press on the pencil. Draw the eyes, constantly checking their likeness to the photo.

Step 2

Draw other parts of the face, also drawing on the lines and maintaining the proportions. Keep in mind that if you use the eraser too often, your sketch will get messy. The purity of the drawing is the key to the high quality of the future portrait. At first, the similarity of the sketch will be small, but you can already see the proportions.

Step 3

Start shading your eyes. Use a 3B pencil. Carefully work out the pupils, apply a little shade to the upper parts of the eyeball to add volume, then draw a thick line and add strokes that indicate the eyelashes. Apply shadow on the eyelids. Complete the picture with other eye details: corner, lower eyelashes. Work your eyebrows.

Step 4

Start drawing the nostrils. Please note that they should not be overly large. Add a soft shadow to the side opposite to the light source and also slightly below. This will make the nose three-dimensional and define it, separating it from the rest of the face. Draw a shadow on the same side of the face to give it volume. Let there be a soft shadow from the eyelashes under the eyes. Mark a fovea above the upper lip.

Step 5

On the lighted side of the face, add subtle darkening to add volume. Shade the lips by drawing their wrinkles and folds. Start at the top and continue at the bottom. In the middle of the lips, leave the light part, tracing it with vertical folds. This will create the illusion of highlights. At the bottom of the lower lip, the shadow should be more distinct. This will separate the mouth from the rest of the face. Make shadows on the chin outlining its shape. Move on to the visible contours of the ears, and then to the hair, where add the most strokes in the darkest areas.

Step 6

Shade the lighter parts of the hair much less and softer. Do not forget to convey the general direction and volume of the hairstyle as a whole with shading, then add strokes that mimic individual hairs.

Step 7

Add small details such as jewelry, clothing items. Draw the background. Don't overdo it: it is not necessary to take a photographically accurate image of the interior. The main emphasis should be on the image of the woman you have drawn.
