One of the most spectacular collars is the cowl collar. Despite the fact that it has lost its former popularity, any knitted or chiffon product will be more interesting with a yoke collar. When cutting the collar, be sure to pay attention to the fabric - it should be non-crease and easily draped so that the "collar" lies nicely and does not stick out with a stake. There are two ways to cut out such a collar: it can be a continuation of the product, or it can be set-in.

It is necessary

  • the cloth
  • Chalk
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread
  • Sewing machine

Instructions

Step 1

To cut out a collar that would be a continuation of the product, you just need to draw two lines vertically from the edges of the neckline to the desired collar height. However, it is necessary to build such a collar on the basis of a boat neck, in other words, it must be wider than the collar itself so that the head passes through.

Step 2

Pay attention to the fabric before cutting. As already mentioned, it should be easily draped and not wrinkled, and besides, its face and wrong side should be the same.

Step 3

If you have chosen a fabric where the front and back sides are different, it would be more correct to cut a set-in collar-collar. To do this, using a ruler and chalk, cut out an ordinary rectangle, the length of which will be equal to the neck circumference, and the height - twice the height of the future collar. In this case, it is better to cut it obliquely, so that the share thread is at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the cut line.

Step 4

If there is a need to tighten the collar, the lining should be cut to match the collar itself, but half the height. Fold the lining with the wrong side of the collar blank, cut it 1-1.5 cm, then fold the edge of the outer collar part and grind both parts, stepping back slightly from the fold.

Step 5

Fold the collar in half with the right side inward and grind its ends, so that the folded edge that should have remained after the previous step is free.. In this case, it is advisable to move one long cut a few millimeters to either side. Turn the part right out.

Step 6

Attach the seam of the resulting part to the neck of your garment and baste, while the folded edge should cover the stitching line. Using your sewing machine's zipper foot, sew both pieces together “into the groove”, securing the collar in this position.
