The stand-up collar beautifully frames the neckline and suits a variety of styles - from dressing gowns to elegant evening blouses. Usually, working with this simple element of the cut does not present any particular difficulties even for beginner seamstresses. However, it is important to master well a straight line, the principles of constructing patterns and some other tailor's secrets. The simplest stand-up collar is considered to be a rectangular cut, which is made of only one or two parts.
It is necessary
- - centimeter;
- - paper for patterns;
- - pencil;
- - scissors;
- - working fabric;
- - non-woven fabric;
- - sewing machine;
- - needle;
- - threads;
- - pins;
- - iron;
- - button or riveting (if necessary).
Instructions
Step 1
Measure the neckline with a centimeter and draw a pattern for two identical pieces of the same length (top collar and collar). Leave an allowance of about a centimeter around the edges. If you want to make a fastener, then provide a margin of length on both sides of the collar (1, 5-2 cm) - the ends of the part will overlap.
Step 2
Please note: it is necessary to cut a standing collar only along the share line (in the direction of the main thread), parallel to the edge of the canvas. This will prevent the cut details from deforming during further processing. Pull the working fabric swatch in different directions: the warp thread will hardly stretch as it is quite tight.
Step 3
Cut out a rectangular backing from the adhesive interlining. Take a ready-made collar pattern as a reference, but do not leave a stock of fabric for the connecting seams. Press the backing material to the wrong side of the rack.
Step 4
Tuck the upper collar allowance so that it goes over the non-woven hem; glue it with an iron.
Step 5
Fold the stand pieces with the wrong side up and sew them on the sewing machine about an inch from the edge, double stitching with 1.5mm stitches (this will make the connecting seam stronger).
Step 6
Trim the seam allowances with very sharp scissors, fairly close to the padded stitching. Do not sew the lower part of the collar!
Step 7
Turn the finished part out and iron it. If necessary, make a hole for the button (the metal button should be riveted on the finished product!).
Step 8
Connect with pins the top of the collar with the front line of the neckline, and the collar (having previously tucked its allowance) - with the wrong side. Make connecting seams. You just need to remove the pins from the canvas and iron the finished stand-up collar well.
