Step 1
You may think that you are choosing your totem animal. In fact, it chooses you. This is an animal that watches over you from birth like a guardian angel. The totem animal stays with you either for life or for a certain period of time. It depends on how you develop, whether you follow your life path. A totem animal can appear in your life for a short period of time if you suddenly find yourself at a crossroads in life and need help. You can have several totem animals in your entire life, although most people have no more than 1-2.

Remember your childhood. Have you played with stuffed animals that represent certain animals, or have you felt a connection with a particular animal?
Step 3
Analyze your dreams. Have you ever had recurring dreams with the same animal in them? If so, try to induce a similar dream. Perhaps the animal will tell you something or try to take you somewhere. This could be your totem animal.
Step 4
Meditate. Find a quiet place, sit in the lotus position, clear your mind of all thoughts and breathe evenly. During meditation, an image of your totem animal may appear in your mind.

Refer to the appropriate reference books for a description of all totems. Once you've decided on your totem animal, see what it symbolizes. Perhaps the spirit animal reflects your behavior, thoughts, or feelings. Or it may try to tell you something in your dreams.

Determine what purpose the totem animal has in your life. A lifelong totem animal supports you throughout your life. Temporary can only appear at a certain period to help you in a given situation. It can enhance your personal growth or alert you to potential dangers. There may be a totem animal that you fear. Its purpose is to test you.
