Proper lubrication is essential for effective glide while skiing. It is used not only by professional athletes, but also by amateurs. In addition to improving glide, this ski preparation also helps to protect the equipment from rapid wear. Some simple guidelines will help you lubricate your skis properly.

It is necessary

  • - machine for fastening skis;
  • - iron;
  • - paraffins and ointments;
  • - cork;
  • - a clean cloth.

Instructions

Step 1

Choose a place to grease your skis. It is desirable to carry out this procedure at room temperature. Secure the ski in a special machine or on a table. If you don't have any gear at hand, place the rear end of the ski against the joint between the floor and the wall.

Step 2

Remove old grease from the ski surface. To do this, use a plastic scraper, solvent (turpentine) and special washes, which can be in the form of an aerosol or paste. Apply the remover to the sliding surface of the ski, wait 2-3 minutes, and then use a scraper to remove the old grease from the surface.

Step 3

When using turpentine, apply it on a soft cloth and wipe the ski surface until the paraffin or ointment is completely removed. Clean the surface of old grease particles with a clean cloth. Skis must be dry.

Step 4

Apply a lubricant designed to improve glide. When it comes to skis with a plastic coating, then, as a rule, various types of paraffins are used for this. Choose the one that matches the air temperature. Prepare a special iron by heating it.

Step 5

Rub the surface of the ski with a paraffin bar or pre-heat it slightly by bringing it to the iron. If you plan to skate in a free (skate) style, apply paraffin wax to the entire sliding surface. For classic walking, apply paraffin wax only to the ends of the skis.

Step 6

Slowly and smoothly iron the surface of the ski so that the wax softens and spreads over it. Be careful not to damage the sliding surface with an unnecessarily hot iron. Allow the skis to cool for 15-30 minutes after applying the paraffin wax.

Step 7

Now remove excess paraffin with a plastic scraper, making movements from the toes of the ski to its rear end. It is unacceptable to use a metal tool as this can damage the plastic coating.

Step 8

In order to eliminate possible "kickback", that is, slipping of the skis when walking with a classic stroke, apply lubricant for holding. Determine the desired area of the ski to apply the ointment. This place, called the "block", is located about 20-30 cm on either side of the bindings (depending on the stiffness of the skis).

Step 9

Apply successively under the "block" two or three thin layers of ski wax, taking into account that it should be designed for a slightly higher temperature than it actually is. It is undesirable to apply one thick layer at once, this will impair the quality of sliding. Rub each layer thoroughly with a cork, making movements from the front to the back of the ski.

Step 10

After applying lubricant, cool the skis outdoors for a while before using them.
