Travel success often depends on how durable the shoes are. Especially if you have to walk a significant part of the way. When going on a hike, you need to make sure that brand new boots that look sturdy will not fall apart at the most crucial moment. Unfortunately, stores are getting less durable shoes, and the seams on the boots may turn out to be imitation. Therefore, sew the shoes yourself before traveling.
It is necessary
- Strong cotton threads
- Thread wax or wax candle
- Awl
- Board
- 2 needles
- Thin crochet hook
- The actual shoes
Instructions
Step 1
Cut off pieces of thread about 50 cm long. Thread 2 pieces of thread through the needles and wax. It is most convenient to use a special thread wax for this purpose, which is sold in special cases. But you can melt beeswax or just a candle and dip the threads there.
Step 2
Wash and dry your boots thoroughly. Take one piece of the prepared thread and fold it in half to form a loop. Punch a hole where you are going to stitch. The best place to start is with a sole. Punch a hole on the outside of the outsole. Pass the hook into the hole on the inside and pull the loop so that the ends of the thread remain on the outside.
Step 3
Make a second hole, pull both ends of the thread through it. Place them in the loop and tighten. From the outside, you have a stitch. Make the next hole. You can even make just the right number of holes right away along the entire length of the seam. Thread both ends of the thread through the needles. Bring one end out to the outside through the same hole, but so that the loop does not open. The ends of the thread should be on opposite sides of the seam.
Step 4
Lead the thread that remained on the inside through the next hole to the outside, and the other end through the same hole to the inside. Continue sewing while pulling the ends of the thread towards each other. You can do it differently. First sew the entire seam with a needle-forward seam, threading through each hole. Then fill in the empty spaces with the other end of the thread, also a needle-forward seam, and at the end of the seam, sew a few stitches between two adjacent holes to secure the seam.
Step 5
Sew any other seams you want to reinforce in the same way. In order to make the line straight, you can first draw lines with thin chalk or wax crayon and mark the places for the holes. The distance between the holes should be approximately equal.
